Also known as: Royal White Ebony, Black & White Ebony, Ivory Ebony, Pale Moon Ebony
Botanical Name: Diospyros embryopteris
Origin: S. Asia, particularly Laos, Myanmar and Thailand
Description: This striking looking veneer is rare. The logs are frequently faulty and many have hair-line cracks and open knots. The lighter part sometimes shows signs of having suffered from insect damage. Consequently the bundles are often trimmed around the worst of these faults into shortish lengths and it is unusual to find much in excess of two metres long. Background colour is a creamy ivory which is overlaid with random, virtually black veining. The logs are very variable with some displaying considerably more black than others. White Ebony is a special, exotic veneer and its price is therefore up among the highest commanded.
