Jatoba, Quartered

Also known as: Courbaril, West Indian Locust, Surinam Teak (misleading), Brazilian Cherry

Botanical Name: Hymenaea courbaril

Origin: Central and South America

Description: This hard and heavy wood is popular as a flooring timber. Selected logs are usually flat sliced to produce clean looking crown and straight grain veneer, light brick-red to orangey-brown in colour, sometimes lightly veined with darker lines. Occasional logs may be more heavily streaked, giving a stripy appearance.
