Also known as: Ayan, African Satinwood

Botanical Name: Distemonanthus benthamianus

Origin: Tropical West Africa

Description: This golden yellow coloured timber is normally quarter cut, and figured logs are the only ones of interest for decorative veneer. The degree of figure varies from a light mottle to a prominent large ripple. It is sometimes stained to a red-brown colour which, particularly when highly figured, can look extremely effective. A very attractive veneer for special furniture and interiors.
