Also known as: Pacific Myrtle, Californian Laurel, Californian Olive
Botanical Name: Umbellularia californica
Origin: Western U.S.A.
Description: Although plain logs are sometimes sliced in the U.S.A., here in the U.K. the only demand is for the burr and cluster veneers which are very attractive. Light in colour, sometimes with a slightly darker heartwood, both types are used on high class furniture and for special interior work. The veneer has a leathery quality and is usually sound and clean, which is not always the case with many other burrs.
