Also known as: Yellow Pine, Southern Yellow Pine, Shortleaf Pine, Pitch Pine

Botanical Name: Pinus echinata, P. palustris

Origin: Eastern and South Eastern U.S.A.

Description: The names Southern Yellow Pine and Pitch Pine are used to refer to around ten different species of conifers, all looking quite similar once converted into timber or veneer. Carolina Pine is just one of these. It is a fast-growing tree and the growth rings are, therefore, fairly wide apart, resulting in the crown structure being somewhat broader than in most other softwood veneers.
