Also known as: East Indian Satinwood
Botanical Name: Chloroxylon swietenia
Origin: India and Sri Lanka
Description: This very handsome veneer has in recent times become harder to obtain in the finest quality as supplies have dwindled due to felling being more rigorously controlled. Naturally this has pushed the cost upwards quite considerably and the best figured logs command high prices. Rich golden yellow to slightly darker, the veneer is lustrous and often has a roey stripe and/or mottle figure, particularly on quartered material. When this mottle is strong and of a small, close character it is known generally as “bee’s wing” figure. Traditionally used for fine furniture, and for high quality panelling and interiors.
