Origin: Central and West Africa

Description: One of the darkest coloured veneers, Wenge is generally a rich chocolate brown with almost black veining, some logs being a little darker than others. It is a heavy wood with a texture that is coarse, giving the finished surface a distinctive and attractive look. The logs may be flat or half-round cut in order to produce crown veneer and there is a demand for straight grain material which is produced by quarter or rift cutting. Top quality Wenge is used for architectural interior decoration, panelling, etc. and is seen on modern furniture.
