Botanical Name: Cordia dodecandra
Origin: Central and tropical South America
Description: An exotic species from the large Cordia family resembling a type of Rosewood. This extremely heavy wood is occasionally sliced into highly decorative veneers which can vary quite considerably from one log to another. Generally the colour is grey-brown to dark brown streaked irregularly with even darker markings which can give an almost three dimensional appearance to the surface. The sapwood is a light cream to yellowy brown and, if incorporated into the scheme, gives a very dramatic appearance. Used mainly for special cabinet and interior joinery work.
